1) ISO 16890 in one minute (engineering view)
ISO 16890 classifies filters by real-world dust into ISO ePM1 / ePM2.5 / ePM10 / ISO coarse and rates them by minimum efficiency after discharge (no "electrostatic boost"). It aligns IAQ targets with energy/lifetime decisions.
2) Typical baselines by scenario
| Scenario | Terminal target | Example stack | Notes |
| Commercial HVAC | ePM2.5 60–80% | Pre ISO coarse 60 → Mid ePM2.5 60–70 → (+ Carbon for VOC/odors) | Prioritize low ΔP₀ (≤70–90 Pa) |
| Healthcare (non-critical) | ePM1 60–80% | Pre ePM10 50 → Mid ePM1 60–70 | Add HEPA at terminals when needed |
| Electronics/Labs (non-critical) | ePM1 70–85% | Pre ePM10 → ePM1 70–80 (or V‑Bank) | Stability of ΔP and airflow |
| Food/CPG | ePM2.5 70–80% | Pre ePM10 → ePM2.5 70–80 → (+ Carbon for VOC) |

3) Pressure drop & energy: the silent budget killer
ΔP₀: initial resistance at rated face velocity; lower saves energy.
ΔP_f: changeout threshold; too high → energy spikes, leak risk, undersupply.
Annual kWh (approx): kWh≈Q⋅ΔP‾/ηf⋅8760⋅CF/1000kWh ≈ Q · \overline{ΔP} / η_f · 8760 · CF / 1000kWh≈Q⋅ΔP/ηf⋅8760⋅CF/1000, where ΔP‾=(ΔP0+ΔPf)/2\overline{ΔP} = (ΔP₀+ΔP_f)/2ΔP=(ΔP0+ΔPf)/2.
Compare options (e.g., bag vs V‑Bank) using the same Q/η_f/CF and swapping the ΔP terms only.

4) Lifetime: back-calc from dust holding + ΔP_f
High dust load → faster ΔP rise. When approaching effective dust holding capacity, ΔP nears ΔP_f. Without sensors, fit ΔP‑time points and choose a conservative changeout.
5) Quick compare: V‑Bank vs Bag (selection logic)
V‑Bank: bigger media area → lower ΔP₀ & slower ΔP rise → longer life + lower kWh.
Bag: high capacity but sensitive to velocity distribution and handling.
