Properties of Galvanized Coil
Corrosion Resistance
The most striking feature of galvanized coils is their excellent corrosion resistance. The zinc coating forms a barrier against the penetration of moisture and oxygen on the steel beneath.
Mechanical Strength
In addition to corrosion resistance, galvanized coils possess excellent mechanical strength. The strong and stable structure that was brought by the core of the steel is further supplemented with a layer of zinc coating, allowing the coils, more adequately, to bear heavy loads or forces without being out of shape, thus making them perfect for the structures that need strength as well as longevity.
Surface Finish and Aesthetics
The other characteristic of the galvanized coils is their beautiful surface finish. During the process, it has the potential to produce a smooth and shiny surface that is more aesthetically pleasant.
Galvanized Coil Surface Treatment
Passivation (Chromate Coating):
A passivation layer, often a chromate-based solution, is applied to the surface to enhance corrosion resistance. This layer helps to prevent the formation of white rust during storage and handling. Non-chromate passivation solutions are also used for environmental reasons.
Oiling:
A thin layer of oil is applied to the surface to prevent rusting during storage and transport. The oil provides a barrier against moisture and contaminants.
Phosphate Treatment:
This involves applying a phosphate chemical to create a layer that improves paint adhesion and increases corrosion resistance.
Anti-fingerprint Treatment:
A nano-coating is applied to the surface to resist fingerprints and smudges, which is particularly useful for products that will be handled during installation or used in appliances.
