Metal Mesh & Activated Carbon Grease Filter

This metal mesh & activated carbon hood filter is built for air systems that have two headaches at the same time:
The oil mist will coat the inside of the pipes, and the smell is very difficult to eliminate immediately.

To deal with that, the filter combines:

a multi-layer metal mesh pack to catch oil droplets and coarse particles, and

an activated carbon section to reduce cooking fumes and odours in the same housing.

You will usually see this filter in commercial kitchen hoods, make-up air units and exhaust systems serving food courts, central kitchens or oily processes, as well as in HVAC intakes where outside air can carry grease-laden fumes.

We manufacture this model in-house and supply it mainly to kitchen equipment OEMs, ventilation contractors and project distributors who need a stable, repeatable specification rather than a one-off spare part.

Key Technical Points (for Quick Reference)

When Communicating Your Proposal To Engineers Or Your Boss, You Can Use The Following Points To Summarize The Technical Aspects:

Filter type: metal mesh grease and odour filter with integrated activated carbon

Media:

multi-layer stainless steel or aluminium mesh on the inlet side

high-porosity activated carbon section on the outlet side

Frame: aluminium alloy as standard; other metals on request

Function: primary reduction of grease droplets, coarse particles and cooking odours

Pressure drop: designed for low resistance, typically in the range below 50 Pa at common hood face velocities (exact figures available according to your size and airflow)

Service approach:

metal mesh can be washed and reused

carbon section is replaced when odour removal weakens

Exact dimensions, mesh layer combinations and carbon loading are set according to your drawing or project data, rather than fixed to one retail model.

Installation & Maintenance

HPFA 130 is designed for quick installation in standard filter tracks or special holding frames.

During maintenance, the filter can be removed, cleaned with water or a suitable degreasing solution, rinsed and fully dried before being reinstalled.

Regular cleaning intervals depend on grease load and airflow; in heavy-duty kitchen applications, visual inspection and scheduled cleaning are recommended to keep resistance low.

With proper care, the typical service life of the filter is 3–5 years.

Typical Installations We See

To help you quickly determine whether "this is suitable for my project," I've broken down several typical use cases based on different scenarios:

Restaurant and hotel kitchen hoods
Mounted directly in the hood or in a dedicated filter frame, reducing grease carry-over into the duct and helping meet local fire and hygiene expectations.

Central kitchens and food courts
Used in exhaust and make-up air units around cooking zones, where large volumes of air must be treated for both oil mist and smell before discharge or recirculation.

Oily industrial exhaust
Applied to exhaust points from frying, roasting or other oily processes in food manufacturing and similar industries, as a combined grease and odour pre-filter.

HVAC intakes near kitchens or food production
Installed in air handling units that draw air from courtyards or roofs near exhaust stacks, to protect coils and downstream filters from residual greasy fumes.

If your working conditions involve significant oil mist and you don't want any odor in the surrounding area or return air, then this type of filter can generally be considered as a potential solution.

Cleaning, Change-Out and Expected Life

This is often where maintenance teams focus, so we usually speak more directly and frankly:

Mesh cleaning

The metal mesh section is designed to be washed.

Remove the filter, let excess grease drain, then wash the mesh side with warm water and a suitable degreasing agent.

Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry before putting it back into service.

Carbon section

Activated carbon is not normally washed; once its odour-removal performance drops, it should be replaced.

Depending on grease and odour load, the carbon change-out interval can range from a few months to over a year; we recommend starting with shorter intervals and adjusting based on results.

Overall lifetime

With reasonable handling, the frame and mesh can stay in service for several years.

The actual "kit lifetime" is determined by mechanical wear, corrosion and your carbon replacement practice.

If you provide us with the estimated oil mist concentration and your planned cleaning/replacement schedule, we can also suggest a general maintenance schedule for your reference when we deliver the initial shipment.

Production Process

Exquisite materials: Select high-quality metal mesh and activated carbon to ensure the filtering effect from the source.
Mesh surface technology: Adopt precision weaving and folding technology, which can not only allow the airflow to pass smoothly, but also maximize the filtering efficiency.
Activated carbon design: directly embedded in the filter material, with stronger adsorption capacity and more powerful against oil and odor.
Frame workmanship: The sturdy aluminum frame firmly supports the entire filter, and the structure is solid and durable.
Quality control link: Each model has been strictly tested, and the filtering effect and durability must meet the standards.
Packaging details: Specially reinforced packaging is made, no matter where it is sent to in the world, it can be delivered to customers steadily.

From Drawing to Production – How We Work With You

These types of grease and odor filters are typically "made to order," and we usually work with you in the following sequence:

Collect basic data

Hood or housing opening size(width × height × thickness)

Airflow and target face velocity

Temperature range & whether air is recirculated or discharged outdoors

Discuss construction details

Mesh material (stainless vs aluminium)

Frame style (flat frame, box frame, handles or tabs)

Carbon loading level and thickness, based on expected odour load

Confirm specification & sampling

Provide a simple spec sheet or drawing for your confirmation

Supply samples for fit-check and on-site evaluation if required

Batch production & packing

Filters grouped and labelled by size or installation area

OEM labelling and branded cartons available for equipment builders and distributors

This way, whether you're working on a one-off project or need long-term supply of range hoods/ventilation equipment, you can incorporate this metal mesh and activated carbon grease filter into your standard materials system.

FAQ

Q:  Is this a HEPA filter?

A: No. It is a grease and odour filter combining metal mesh and activated carbon. It is used in the front stages of kitchen and oily exhaust systems, not as a high-efficiency particle filter.

Q: Can the whole filter be washed?

A: The metal mesh part is made to be washed and reused. The activated carbon section should normally be replaced once its adsorption capacity is used up, rather than washed.

Q: What information do you need for a quotation?

A: We mainly need the outer dimensions (width, height, thickness), expected airflow or face velocity, preferred mesh material and any special installation details such as handles, hooks or gaskets. Photos of the current filter or hood frame are also very helpful.

Q: Can this filter be used in standard HVAC units, not just kitchen hoods?

A:Yes, as long as the air contains grease or odour that justifies having both mesh and carbon in one filter. It can be fitted into AHUs or exhaust cabinets serving areas with heavy cooking or oily processes.
