High Dust Holding Pleated Filter | Extended Life Pre-Filter for AHU Systems
High dust holding pleated filter designed for longer service life and stable airflow. Reduce replacement frequency in high airflow AHU systems.

When Standard Pleated Filters Start Causing Problems
In many systems, pleated filters are chosen because they offer a good balance between cost and performance. But once the system runs for a longer period, some practical issues start to appear.
Maintenance teams often notice that:
filters load up faster than expected
pressure rises quickly after installation
airflow becomes less stable over time
replacement cycles become more frequent
At that point, the issue is not the filter type itself — it is the limited dust holding capacity under real operating conditions.

A Different Approach: Designed for Higher Dust Capacity

Instead of simply increasing efficiency, this type of pleated filter focuses on how much dust it can hold before needing replacement.

By adjusting the pleat structure and media distribution, the filter is able to:

•store more dust across the entire surface

•delay the rate of pressure increase

•keep airflow more consistent during operation

•extend the usable life of the filter

👉 In practice, this means fewer replacements and more predictable performance.

Why Dust Capacity Becomes a Practical Limitation

In actual operation, the limitation of a filter is often noticed not in its efficiency rating, but in how quickly it "fills up" during use.

In many systems, what operators experience is not a sudden failure, but a gradual change:

•filters look heavily loaded after a short period

•airflow at diffusers feels weaker than before

•maintenance teams start replacing filters earlier than planned

•different units show inconsistent performance even under similar conditions

👉 These are often signs that the filter is reaching its usable capacity too quickly.

Instead of focusing only on how well a filter captures particles, it becomes more important to consider how long it can continue operating before these changes become noticeable.

A design with higher dust capacity allows the filter to:

•maintain more stable performance across its service period

•avoid early "overloaded" appearance

•keep replacement timing more predictable

•reduce variability between different units in the same system

👉 In practice, this is less about achieving a higher specification, and more about keeping the system behavior consistent from the first week to the last.

Where This Type of Filter Becomes a Practical Choice

In many projects, the decision to switch to a higher-capacity pleated filter does not come from specifications, but from repeated operational issues.

For example, some systems run without obvious problems at the beginning, but after a few weeks:

•filters in certain sections need to be replaced much earlier than expected

•airflow differences between similar units become noticeable

•maintenance schedules start to shift from planned to reactive

•teams begin to keep extra stock because replacement timing is no longer predictable

In these situations, the concern is no longer about achieving a certain efficiency level, but about keeping the system stable over time.

This type of filter is often selected when:

•replacement intervals vary too much between units

•filters appear overloaded even before reaching expected service time

•maintenance access is limited or inconvenient

•system operation depends on consistent airflow rather than peak performance

👉 Under these conditions, improving how long the filter performs consistently becomes more valuable than simply increasing its rated efficiency.

Technical Parameters

Pro Pleat Filters use synthetic G2–G4 (≈ MERV 6–8) media in a rigid galvanized or aluminum frame, with evenly spaced pleats to give stable airflow and good dust-holding for pre-filter duty.

The chart above shows the typical pressure drop vs. airflow curves for G1–G4 grades. At common HVAC airflows (around 2,000–3,000 m³/h per filter), clean resistance is generally in the 30–60 Pa range, with G1 lowest and G4 highest. This means you can choose the grade that fits your coil protection and air-quality needs, while keeping fan energy and pre-filter change-out intervals under control.

We routinely make "inch-equivalent" and metric sizes such as:

24×24, 24×12, 20×20, 20×16 inch

595×595, 595×295, 495×495, 495×295 mm

Custom sizes are also possible, as long as you provide width, height and thickness, or send a photo with a tape measure for confirmation.

What Engineers Usually Look For

When selecting this type of filter, the discussion is rarely about "which filter is better."

Instead, it focuses on:

•whether the existing space is being fully used

•whether airflow distribution is stable across the filter face

•whether performance varies between different units

•whether redesigning the system is practical

👉 This type of filter is often chosen when
adjusting the system is difficult, but improving performance is still required.

Installation Perspective

From an installation point of view, this type of filter does not require major changes.

It is typically used as a direct replacement within existing frames or tracks.

However, to get the best result:

•filters should be evenly aligned within the section

•gaps between units should be minimized

•airflow direction should match the intended design

👉 Because structure plays a larger role here, installation consistency becomes more important.

Applications

Pro Pleat Filters are used as pleated HVAC pre-filters in a wide range of systems:

Pharmaceutical Facilities
Installed in AHUs as a pre-filter stage upstream of HEPA filters in cleanrooms and controlled environments.

Electronics Manufacturing
Helps reduce coarse dust load on finer filters that protect sensitive equipment and products.

Food Processing & Packaging
Used in supply air systems for production and packaging zones where clean, stable airflow is required.

Commercial HVAC Systems
Applied in office buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping centers and public facilities to improve indoor air quality and protect downstream filters.

Industrial Workshops & General Industry
Pre-filtration in welding, machining and general process areas to capture coarse particles before they reach finer filters or equipment.

Sizing, Options & OEM Support

When working with overseas clients on the Pro Pleat series, we typically confirm a few things first:

Exact dimensions
Width, height and thickness, plus any special tolerances if your filter tracks are tight.

Media grade and target pressure drop
Whether you prefer lower initial resistance or longer life, so we can choose media weight accordingly.

Frame type
Galvanized or aluminum frame, with or without outlet-side mesh.

Labelling and packing
Neutral packing, your own brand labels, barcode, AHU position marking on cartons, etc.

For OEM buyers, once we lock the drawing and bill of materials for your Pro Pleat model, we keep those as your standard so that repeat orders do not need to be re-discussed each time. Mixed loading with bag filters, HEPA filters or washable mesh pre-filters is also possible to make full use of container space.

Installation & Replacement

Before installation, check that the filter frame is not twisted or damaged and that the gasket or sealing edge is intact. Confirm the required airflow direction from the unit drawings or the existing filter and make sure the airflow arrow on the Pro Pleat Filter, if present, matches the actual airflow in the filter rack. The upstream and downstream sides should be clearly oriented so the pleats face the airflow as intended.

Slide the Pro Pleat Filter into the frame or track, making sure it is seated firmly and evenly on all sides to minimise bypass. The frame should make full contact with the holding frame or clips; if there are visible gaps, use appropriate sealing strips or adjust the retaining mechanism. When installing in multi-filter banks, align all panels so the faces are in a common plane and the corners meet without openings between frames. This helps maintain uniform airflow and prevents localised high velocity that can reduce filter life.

During operation, it is good practice to monitor differential pressure across the filter. Replacement intervals depend on dust load, operating hours and system design. Many users replace the filter when it reaches the recommended final resistance specified for the system, or in line with a planned maintenance schedule (for example, monthly or quarterly checks). Recording pressure drop readings over time will help you optimise the change-out point for your application.

When replacing, remove the used filter carefully to avoid releasing accumulated dust into the air. Place the old filter directly into a bag or container for disposal according to local regulations and site procedures. Because Pro Pleat Filters are lightweight and self-supporting, one technician can usually handle installation and removal without special tools; basic PPE such as gloves, safety glasses and a mask is recommended, especially in dusty or sensitive environments. After replacement, re-check that all filters are correctly seated and that access doors or panels are closed and latched to maintain proper system tightness.
